Volme-Galerie am Rathaus / Hagen / Germany

Volme-Galerie am Rathaus opened in Spring 2003, in the heart of Hagen city centre, to serve a market of 428,000 inhabitants. Hagen is situated between the Ruhr and Sauerland regions.

In Hagen’s “new city centre”, a new and attractive urban area invites visitors to linger, Volme-Galerie am Rathaus was realised in the newly designed pedestrian zone at Friedrich-Ebert-Platz. The architectural design of Volme-Galerie, together with the “Stadtfenster”, also created by Multi Development, perfectly complements the square and provides a varied range of catering and retail outlets.

The sales area, of about 31,000 m², seamlessly integrates the former “City-fach-markt”. Volme-Galerie was chosen as the ideal location in Hagen by many internationally renowned retailers like H&M, Roland Schuhe, Nicholas Scholz, Wehmeyer etc. who opened stores for the first time in Hagen. An area of about 2,400 m² for new offices has also been created on the upper floors of the “Stadtfenster”.

The Volme-Galerie is in immediate proximity to the historical town hall and the new, enlarged town hall, also designed by Multi, which create synergy for trade and catering. Visitors to the town hall and the employees in the administration further increased the number of centre visits. Also, the Volme-Galerie offers the biggest parking facility in the Hagen pedestrian zone with a multi-storey car park comprising 864 safe parking spaces, which offer direct access to the sales areas.

The multifunctional Volme-Galerie has provided a strong boost for the revitalisation of Hagen city centre, supported by private investors (including Galeria Kaufhof, Phönix, Douglas, Sparkasse bank etc.) and local city development. It thus offers enormous growth potential to local retailers, not only by drawing greater purchasing power to the city centre, but also by attracting new customers from the surrounding areas.
